New Neighbor

Jellybean was slightly friendlier today, I hope this is a trend that continues. We worked in the round pen to burn some steam, since she didn't go out today. At dinner time, she met a new next door stall neighbor! She decided she was much more interested in new horses than food.

Rain Rain, Grow the Grass

The farm life is pretty awesome right now. It rains for about 2 hours, then stays calm for awhile, then rains again. Jellybean is enjoying her stall and the time not being rained on I'm sure.

She did sneak out to eat some hay.

And out in the round pen to burn some extra energy.

Stall pictures

Jellybean has been getting used to her new stall this week and adjusting to her new schedule. She has breakfast in the morning, and then gets turned out into the pasture with "those other horses" (She's very anti social). In the evenings I work with her, feed her, then leave her inside for the night.

I am going to keep monitoring her attitude, she has been very aggressive this week. This is either because she has been getting double 12% feed, she has been burning less energy by standing in a stall, or she's in heat. Either way, food is good, and I can always cut her down before we start breaking her.

Jellybean's stall is about 12x12 with shavings. She seems to be a neat stall horse, doing her business along one side of the stall. The stall was previously vacant, and once the shavings come in I will strip and rebed.

What are you looking at?

It's so awkward when someone takes pictures of you eating...

New house!

Jellybean moved into her new stall tonight. She got a shiny new water bucket, her normal dinner, and 3 whole flakes of hay! Hopefully she gets along with the race horse living next door. Pictures to come once I get the shavings/sawdust working out. Hopefully she will start on the weight gain train, she lost about 40 pounds in the last month. More food for Jellybean!!

Long Lining II

Today we decided to work on some more long lining and see how well Jellybean remembered her last lesson. She was a champion, she remembered immediately and we had a successful session in the big arena :)

Stopping like a champ

We turn

Turinng turning turning

Whoa

She seems very bored with this exercise
Round and round

Such a smart pony

And on to the big arena!!

Really nice work today, especially considering we haven't worked in a few days because of lab work and weather. I do think Jellybean will be moving into a stall soon, she seems a little bit thin :s

Anti Social

It appears Jellybean does not like her herd. All seven horses escaped through a hole in the fence to the field next door (approximately 100 acres?) while Jellybean stayed put. She was waiting at the gate when I got there, and happily accompanied us across the pasture to collect the escapees. Shes either brilliant or hates the other horses...
They were so far away... and my phone only zoomed so much.
