I'm starting to think we might drown...

     Just another day in the rain. Can you guess which pony stayed in the shelter and which one didn't?

Rain rain rain!

     So we got caught in an afternoon thunderstorm, and got to watch the drama with the new shelter. Peanut Butter felt the rain coming and immediately took over the shelter. She stood in the middle of the shelter surveying her kingdom as Jellybean tried to sneak on without Peanut Butter noticing. As you can imagine, Jellybean was run out several times before she managed to get everything but her butt inside.

     So they were just standing there, when it started hailing a bit. Well the roof of the shed is tin... they ran out to the rain and were immediately hit with hail!! They walked around for a minute, checking out their new swimming pool, before returning to the corner of the shed. They huddled there

     You can just barely see Jellybean's face beside Peanut Butter.

Rainy Day, again

     Today was a fun day for the girls. This morning, the temperature was a balmy 70 degrees, and the sky was partly cloudy. They were released from their stalls to frolic and play, celebrating with lots of bucking. However, the weather turned menacing in the late morning hours. The temperature dropped approximately twenty degrees in less than an hour as the rain poured from the sky. I imagine it was quite unpleasant in the pasture as a cold rain fell from the sky. 
     This afternoon I collected them from the pasture. Both girls were very opinionated and determined to run SOMEWHERE. Jellybean snuck away while I was closing the gate and would have run for the hills if a patch of green grass didn't catch her attention. Peanut Butter was just as mischievous  although she decided to be very alert to her surroundings. I am still surprised she didn't try to run away.
     Eventually I wrangled the girls into their house and gave them dinner and pity hay. Soon, they won't have to worry about standing in the stalls all day. At the end of the month, a paddock will be coming available and they will have an outdoor home, 24/7. There is a shelter inside the paddock where they can hide from the rain, should they choose. We will be feeding them grain morning and evening, in addition to providing a round bale. They don't know how good their lives will be.

Rain, rain, grow the grass!

     Not too much happening at the farm this week, as the rain is trying to fall from the sky. Here in Texas, this is a challenge apparently. The humidity has been sitting here for the last week with limited rain falling from the sky. In any case, the girls are enjoying extra hay while they are stuck in the stall away from the mud. 
     As far as recent work with Jellybean, she has been enjoying a bit of a break, with the exception of some practice in patience. She has been standing tied beside the arena when I ride another horse. I am very pleased that she seems ok with this, limited pawing and calling for others. Jellybean is a fairly independent little pony, which make me very excited for her future training. Training is going to continue to move slow, however, because little Jelly is growing like crazy!! Unfortunately this picture doesn't do it justice, but when I first purchased her, she was between 14.1 and 14.2, now she is up to 15 hands. Looking at these pictures, it looks like she is changing from a child to a teenager :)

Change in the weather!

     Today was much nicer than the previous few days, although it was significantly colder. Jellybean seems pleased by the addition of the round bale to her pasture, and spends lots of time eating. She's going to be fat soon :) 

     I groomed Jellybean today, and she is getting really smart about picking her feet up and enjoying being brushed. Except of course the other day, when she managed to back up and break her lead rope. Robert rigged it back together and hopefully it will be solid in the future. She also got her first experience up close and personal with the cows. They were lowing (?) at her while she was eating.

     Farrier appointment is all booked for Wednesday morning, hopefully the visit will be pretty boring and easy :) We should start working more in the round pen as the weather drys out. I am also a little more excited to start riding Benny more and ponying Jellybean off him. Robert and I also decided to try and put together some caveletti, for some more fun exercises. 

    Now all we need is decent weather!

     Just another day in the rain :)

Swimming in the pasture...

     What a rainy day!! Again... You can almost see how the field is under water, rough day. Jellybean is on the right in the photos. She was excited about eating dinner.

     We had a short lesson about manners tonight, it was warm and windy in the field and Jellybean wasn't sure about the other horses running around. She almost forgot I was attached to the other end of the halter...

     Over dinner we had another lesson about who is in charge. I ran her off her feed a couple of times, letting her return only when her ears perked forward. Eventually she will learn that I am completely in charge. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

     Before I let her go free, I decided to let her play in the mud a little, and tried to walk her through a deep puddle in the driveway. She didn't buy it, so we compromised and walked through the shallow part. One day at a time i suppose.
